Jazz Shapes II

These pieces started life as experiments using off cuts from other collages and pays homage to   Matisse’s art book titled Jazz, published in 1947. Tapping into the zeitgeist, this seminal collection of twenty graphic writings and images, seamlessly merged music and art together forming a stylistic blueprint for further transatlantic mid century graphic design.

To try and channel some of this energy whilst working, I listened to The Dave Brubeck Quartet and the live recording of the album Take Five performed at Carnegie hall in 1963. One of the great jazz albums of all time, and giving inspiration to the title of these works.
