The first parrot piece was made in 2020 after completing the Peacock and looking for other ideas. I was drawn to the vibrant colour of tropical birds bursting through tree tops after researching tropical flora and fauna of the Brazilian rainforest. From here I started looking at the work of Henri Rousseau and his jungle paintings for inspiration, the animals submerged in the green undergrowth. The introduction of black paint into the palette helps keep a visual balance to all the strong colour hues whilst creating a sense of light and shadow.
