The idea for this piece came from a trip to Kew Gardens and seeing these elegant birds wandering around the grounds, owning their presence and fluttering their feathers. The iridescent cobalt blue, turquoise and teal greens were the starting palette adding coppers and golds to create the shimmering texture found in their plumes. It is unashamedly a celebration of the decorative and a style that informed a number of subsequent works.
