Orchid

The Orchid has long been one of my favourite plants and a natural choice when considering subject matter for the Garden series. The simplicity of the composition meant that I could really explore the detail of the intricate parts that make up this unique beautiful flower. 

Researching further I discovered that there are nearly 28,000 species within the orchid family with a myriad of colours, shapes and patterns. And although most of them grow in tropical or subtropical environments, there have been some found living north of the artic circle! 

With this in mind I chose a white orchid, which has come to symbolise innocence and new beginnings.
